Many families came out to today's annual Winter Recreation Day at Presque Isle State Park.

Ice fishing, snowshoeing, and skiing were all planned for today, but the snowshoeing and skiing were canceled because of the lack of snow.

Ice fishing was done from a floating platform because the ice at Waterworks Pond was not safe for people to stand on.

In addition to the ice fishing, there were other events for kids and families to participate in.

"We are leading small hikes, looking for birds, talking about the beavers and the natural history that we have out here," Ray Bierbower, an environmental education specialist with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
