FEBRUARY 17, 2013- A fire rips through a home in Greene Township leaving a family without a place to live.

Just before six Sunday morning, fire crews rushed to a house fire on Sampson Road in Greene Township...

Luckily the family got out okay, in part to working smoke alarms.

When fire crews arrived at the scene this morning, they saw flames shooting through the roof.

Fire officials say the fire worked its way through the attic space, damaging a great deal of the upstairs area of the house.

Three people were inside the house at the time of the fire, 2 adults and a child.

According to reports from the scene, the family woke up to a crackling and popping noise.

Shortly thereafter, the smoke alarms began to go off, sending the family rushing out of the home.

It took fire crews nearly 20 minutes to knock out the blaze.

But crews worked for about four hours to clean up the wreckage.

Kuhl Hose Fire Chief says the cold temperatures made the job more difficult.

It appears the fire started upstairs, but there is no definite cause.

    The Fire inspector is investigating.
